Seattle\u2019s CityArtist Projects annual funding program assists Seattle artists in developing and presenting their work.<\/p>\n<p>The program, which supports new works, works-in-progress, or works taken to the next stage in 2015, received about 130 applications. Nearly 40% of the awards will go to first-time recipients. Awards range up to $8,000 and are anticipated to stage project presentations within a year. A peer-review panel evaluated proposals based on criteria such as artistic merit and potential, public access and impact and feasibility.<\/p>\n<p>Awardees in 2015 include <strong>Desdemona Chiang<\/strong>, who will produce a new bilingual ASL\/English play about the intersection of hearing and Deaf culture and the controversy over cochlear implants featuring a mixed ensemble of Deaf and hearing actors; <strong>Alice Gosti<\/strong>, who willcreate a dance performance that brings politics and history to the foreground with questions of identity, community and where art belongs; <strong>Alex Guy<\/strong>, who will<strong> c<\/strong>ompose, record and mix a musical score for a feature length documentary about immigration and belonging; and<strong> Mirta Wymerszberg<\/strong>, who will recreate and perform a children&#8217;s theatrical work about &#8216;el contador de cuentos,\u201d the storyeller of ancient Latin American children stories and songs.<\/p>\n<p>For a complete list of 2015 CityArtist Projects, visit the Office of Arts &amp; Culture website:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattle.gov\/arts\/funding\/individual_partners.asp\">http:\/\/www.seattle.gov\/arts\/funding\/individual_partners.asp<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Funding is offered to different artistic disciplines in alternating years. In 2014, CityArtists awarded $160,000 to 33 individual artists working in literary, media, film and visual arts.
